ST CATHERINE, Jamaica – For the second time in as many weeks, the Marine police have seized a vessel, hundreds of gallon of marine fuel and arrested several men, one of whom is wanted for murder.

The latest seizure occurred on Pelican Cay, off the coast of Old Harbour, St Catherine, last Saturday.

Reports are that about midday, the Marine police were carrying out patrols aimed at stemming the flow of contraband via the island’s coastal waters. A check of the Pelican Cay resulted in the arrest of five men, the seizure of a 32-foot boat and approximately 220 gallons of fuel.

Charged with breaches of the Fishing Industry Act are:

• Leighton Lewis, 31-year-old fisherman of Spring Village, St Catherine;

• Everald Dight, otherwise called ‘Brown Man’, 44-year-old fisherman of Spring Village, St Catherine;

• Courtney Johnson, 40-year-old fisherman of Dunbeholden, Portmore, St Catherine; and

• Otis Brown, a 37-year-old, fisherman of Braeton, St Catherine, has also been charged for breaches of the Petroleum Act.

These men are scheduled to appear in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate’s Court on Friday, December 11.

The police say the identity of the fifth man, who was charged with murder, is being withheld to facilitate further investigations.
