Warehouse closed after possible hazardous release
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) is advising its clients and stakeholders that operations at its Queen’s 230 Warehouse, located on Spanish Town Road, Kingston, have been suspended until further notice.
The JCA said the closure is primarily due to the possible release of a hazardous material in the stripping section of the facility on Monday.
The agency said following reports of the possible release, its Occupational Health and Safety Unit made immediate contact with the relevant agencies, such as the Ministry of Health, the Jamaica Fire Brigade and the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), to ensure swift investigation into the matter.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade visited the facility on Monday and took precautionary steps, which included air testing.
Teams from NEPA, Jamaica Fire Brigade and the Ministry of Health today carried out further assessments at the facility, JCA said, adding that employees who were directly exposed have received medical attention and all employees assigned to the unit have been relocated to the JCA’s head office.
