Whitehall Ave fire leaves 9 homeless
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Nine people are left homeless after a fire destroyed their home on Whitehall Avenue in Kingston a short while ago.
According to Morieka James, one of the victims of the fire, their house and upholstery shop caught fire at approximately 9:00am. James said that she saw the smoke and fire emitting her father’s upholstery shop and raised an alarm.
She attempted to contain the fire, but her efforts proved futile. .
Acting Assistant Superintendent Lawrence Campbell said that they arrived on the scene at about 9:13 am, but the fire was so severe, that they had to request help from the Trench Town fire unit.
Campbell said that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but investigations are underway.
