$1/2 m bail for Jamaica Broilers sales rep
OLD HARBOUR, St Catherine — A 38, year-old Jamaica Boilers sales represenatitive, who is accused of defrauding the company of over $2 million, is to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on June 5 when she is expected to start reimbursing the company.
Charged with nine counts of fraudulent conversion is Donna Smith of Old Stony Hill Road in St Andrew. She was offered bail in the sum of half-a-million dollars when she appeared in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate’s Court last Friday.
Allegations are that between October 4 of last year and March 27 of this year, Smith collected the money for the sale of chickens from several companies in St Ann but did not hand it over to the company.
She instead used the money to carry out personal business and lend to her friends, according to the allegations read out in court. On May 7, the Old Harbour police took her into custody, then later arrested and charged her for the offence.
In granting her bail, Senior Resident Magistrate Lorna Gayle instructed Smith to hand in her passport to the police and to report to the Stony Hill police station twice per week.
