Mayor Giscombe freed of gun and assault charges
Mayor of St Ann’s Bay and Councillor for the Exchange Division, Delroy Giscombe, yesterday resumed his duties after he was freed of gun and assault charges in the Gun Court Division of the Brown’s Town Resident Magistrate’s Court.
The mayor had taken a leave of absence from the St Ann parish Council to answer to the charges stemming from an incident in Bamboo last December. Yesterday, High Court Judge Justice Paulette Williams dismissed the case after Giscombe’s lawyer Ernest Smith argued that a no case submission should be entered in the matter.
Allegations are that last December Giscombe was at the home of the wife of the complainant, taxi operator Donald Hurd, who arrived home to find them both in bed. An argument developed and during the argument Giscombe reportedly pulled his licensed firearm and assaulted the complainant. A report was made to the police and following investigations, the mayor was charged.
