Brand new air conditioning units have been installed at the Montego Bay Courthouse, replacing the old malfunctioning ones that caused Justice Roy Jones to cancel the afternoon sessions of the extended Easter circuit last month.

Judges, attorneys, police officers and court staff turned up at work last week to find three brand new units installed in the largest court room on the building.

Additionally, the air conditioning units in other court rooms appeared to be working much better than in previous weeks when windows had to be opened to admit fresh air.

Acting administrator for the St James Court, Paulella Reid-Morris, told the Observer West that she was pleased with the timely response to the situation and that the court staff and others would be a lot more comfortable while carrying out their duties.

The administration of justice decelerated during the extended session of the recent Easter Circuit after Justice Jones decided that he was not going to subject the public to the unbearable afternoon heat occasioned by the malfunctioning units.

His action, which was reported by the Observer West, triggered a swift response which saw technicians being called to service the units. However, their efforts did very little to improve the situation.
