Treat non-working traffic lights as all-way stops, says NWA
THE National Works Agency (NWA) yesterday warned motorists to treat intersections where there are non-operation or malfunctioning traffic signals as all-way stops.
Senior communications officer at the agency, Colin Morrison, said as a result motorists should stop at the stop bars, look left, right and ahead, and then proceed when it is safe to do so, until the signals are repaired.
According to Morrison, there are currently 47 affected intersections located in Kingston & St Andrew, St Catherine, Manchester, St James, Clarendon and St Elizabeth.
“There is no electrical supply at 30 of these intersections, 18 of which are located in Kingston & St Andrew, three in Manchester, eight in St Catherine and two in St Elizabeth, while there was damage to cabinets, cables and signal heads at the other locations,” he said.
He said that the NWA will re-activate signals now without power as soon as the Jamaica Public Service Company restores the supply of electricity to the affected locations.
