Fancy something a little different at teatime? Something a little stronger perhaps? And no, we’re not talking a Cosmopolitan or G&T. Think cappuccino, espresso, a little wine, a spritzer, even a daiquiri (non-alcoholic though) to go with your delectable Tiramisu or pastry.

Susie Hanna continues to whip up a ‘storm in a teacup’ at her Southdale Plaza location of Susie’s Bakery, and it’s called Happy High Tea – Cappuccino Hour. While Hanna continues to try and hold back the after-hour crowds at the Orchid Village branch, she has now extended opening hours at Southdale Plaza until 10:00 pm. And with the crowds increasing each week, she is confident that this location will succeed with late night customers. “If we are open, I know people will come,” she says.

The Happy High Tea, available at both locations, runs from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday to Thursday. During this time, there will be special savoury platters available, including a BBQ wing platter, with carrots, cucumber and cooling dip for $1,000, as well as a Mezze platter, with two cocktail kibbies, hummus, tabbouleh, pita chips and olives, at $550 each.

And for those die hard tea fans, every craving will be met. For black tea lovers, the choices include Early Grey organic teas, vanilla bean, and chocolate orange truffle. Green teas include green tea passion (a combination of green tea and passion fruit), and Marrakesh mint. Some other fruity combinations include vanilla coconut and chocolate mint truffle.

All teas are served in authentic, copper, embossed mini teapots and cost $400 during normal hours, but is discounted to $250 during the Happy High Tea – Cappuccino Hour.

How perfectly civilised! And come November, diners will be able to enjoy their tea on the terrace, but until then, the soothing sounds of the completed fountain will have to do.
