Over eighty teachers and office attendants from five secondary schools in Westmoreland, participated in the second Eileen Bridget Early Leadership Series Seminar on Tuesday.

Staged in the library of the Westmoreland’s Godfrey Stewart High School (GSHS) this year’s event was sponsored by National Commercial Bank, whose Western Regional Manager, Norman Reid is chairman of the school’s Board of Management.

Pointing out that the seminar was a plus for their resumes, Reid pledged his organisation’s continued support.

According to Theobold Fearon, principal of GSHS, the series comprised a four-year plan to make GSHS the best school there is.

“…but we won’t go to the mountaintop alone, we won’t be competing with you but will share our knowledge as we are doing today,” he told the seminar.

The Leadership Series is named in honour of the late Eileen Bridget Early who died in 2007 at the age of 56.

Early was a Master Teacher in Reading and initiator of numerous remedial reading programmes at the institution since 1979 when it was then the Savanna-la-Mar Secondary School.

The day’s lectures focused on the management of information for the news media and dealing with children.

Children’s Advocate Mary Clarke, presented Jamaica’s role in upholding the 1991 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
