Goat-breeding project launched in Hounslow
HOUNSLOW, St Elizabeth
Minister of Agriculture Dr Christopher Tufton, has launched a goat-breeding project in the constituency of South West St Elizabeth for which he is the member of parliament, in an effort to improve and increase the stock of small ruminants in the area.
At the launch of the project in Hounslow last Friday, Tufton said 40 agricultural groups – to be known as PMOs – will each receive two ewes.
“The project will operate on a system where the first born of the ewes will be given to two other members of the PMO, who in turn will give the first born to two other members and it continues…,” the MP told the scores of farmers who attended the brief ceremony.
The breeders will be stationed at Hounslow so that registered farmers can bring their ewes for free servicing.
The project is jointly funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and the MP through his Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
