LILLIPUT, St James — The second phase of government’s $500,000,000 infrastructure improvement and housing programme started earlier this week with the rehabilitation of roads in the Lilliput community.

“This particular programme is the start of a major infrastructure upgrading in the Lilliput, Grange Pen and Barrett Hall areas. This is the first road of the lot. The second phase will begin (this week) and the third phase in April. So by the end of the year, about 10 of the 26 roads will be completed,” tourism minister Edmund Bartlett said during a tour of Lilliput on Sunday.

The project forms part the $1billion programme which the prime minister has mandated the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) to provide for infrastructure development and housing for the tourism areas.

According to Bartlett, who is also the parliamentary representative of the East Central St James constituency, other communities slated to benefit under the upgrade are Flanker, Norwood, Barrett Hall, Barrett Town and Long Bay.

The infrastructure upgrade is a precursor to major housing developments in the pipeline for Grange Pen and Barrett Hall.
