Pulse’s Sedene, Jeneil hit Vogue again
AS the summer comes to an end and New York readies for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 collections of fashion’s big week in the city, Pulse’s Vogue super duo Jeneil Williams and Sedene Blake are in top gear for the upcoming season.
Their newest multiple page editorial spread for their second Russian Vogue collaboration has just been released and the two have already been short-listed for the best designers, as they prepare their latest looks for fashion’s major bi-annual circuit of shows which start in New York, continue in London, then go on to Milan before ending in Paris.
In their second instalment for Russian Vogue, both girls take viewers on a fashion journey through the years. The story takes on a retrospective of industry trends from the ’60s and ’70s with a hop to the ’90s. For the sixties portion of the editorial, Jeneil and Sedene sport elegant knee-length dresses and skirts belted at the waist with delicate lace and leather gloves. Styling accents include medium-sized handbags and clutches reflecting the sixties with a modern interpretation. Naturally, hair was also a major component of a very distinct look of that time and the stylists did not disappoint. The signature sixties buffon is accented with large headbands to complement, polish and finish the looks.
The fashion cycle continues in the 10-page editorial spread and for the vibrant disco era seventies, the creative team, headed by photographer Sharif Hamza, had the models in wicked bell bottoms and floral tops and long dresses with signature headscarves and long volumous hair to match. The now ubiquitous animal prints, which are the order of present-day trends, dominate the exploration of the 1990s and 2000s in the editorial spread. Our supermodels expertly got into character for the tiger, leopard and zebra skin-inspired jackets, aptly accessorised by teased, spiked and crimped hair reflective of the animalistic influences.
In a fierce and illustrative story, Sedene and Jeneil, Jamaica’s hottest two modelling exports of the moment, show their versatility and chameleon-like qualities, assets which all top models posses and clients look for, as they present the latest fashion trends. Both Blake and Williams have had a stellar year.
Jeneil has scored three covers — LOVE, the Wall Street Journal and i-D magazine — in one calendar year, and with that feat, she has already surpassed all models from the Caribbean in this regard. Sedene, for her part, has smashed runway records previously set by Pulse superstar Jaunel McKenzie when she scored over 60 shows in her debut season on the global fashion circuit. She was declared among three girls in the world to watch by Vogue as the collections kicked off in New York back in February. Blake also blazed an editorial trail with her booking of four Vogues and in the process scored her famed Italian Vogue beauty cover. This she did in record time having begun her career just over a year ago.
With the year’s third quarter filled with campaign, editorial and runway options, Pulse’s super duo are on course to continue their record-breaking ways.
Blake and Williams were discovered in Pulse’s Caribbean Model Search which has been the premier source for the region’s top modelling talent.
