Business House divisional finals on today
A new champion could be crowned in the final of the 2010 Western Sports-sponsored Kingston & St Andrew Business House Football Division One league competition when Petrojam and former champions Carib Cement meet at the UWI Bowl today at 4:00 pm. In the curtain raiser at 2:00 pm, first time finalist Wisynco Group and Wray & Nephew meet in the Division Two final.
It took the Raymond Quallo-coached Petrojam five years to win their first title, when they finally won the Division Two title last year and were promoted to Division One. They will start as favourites to claim their first senior title.
However, their opponents are the only ones to have prevented them from having a 100 per cent record, having held them to a 0-0 draw in the preliminary round. Quallo will be looking to joint Division One leading goal scorer David Stultz (seven goals), Asphas Bernard, Omar Francis, Damion Campbell, Jothan Watson and Marvin Powell for victory.
Carib Cement’s season has been inconsistent, drawing three games and losing one. They found form in the semi-final and clobbered favourites Gleaner Company 5-0. Coach George Thompson is confident that they will win today and regain the title which they last won in 2008. He will rely on Fabian Nethersole (seven goals), Jermaine Rowe, Oniel Gayle, Russell Hosang, and brothers Ingi and Orlando Lowe for victory.
In the curtain raiser, unbeaten Wisynco Group will meet Wray & Nephew for the second time in seven days, after meeting in the knockout final last Saturday. Wisynco came out on top 1-0 in a close match. Coach Marcel ‘Fuzzy’ Gayle is going for the double and will look to Division Two leading goal scorer Girvon Brown (15 goals), Kevin Mighty, Kelso Cousins, Omar Washington, Calbert Coke and Kevin Palmer for victory.
Coach Anthony Patrick of Wray & Nephew has revenge on his mind and will be relying on goalkeeper Julian McLeish, Richardo Robinson, Ozane Christie, Glen Simms, Caetaneo Rainford and Kemar Gordon for victory.
The winner of Division Two will receive $40,000, while the runner-up gets $20,000. The Division One winner receives $60,000 with the runner up getting $30,000. Sponsors Western Sports Limited will have half-time give away to lucky spectators.
