Space Fury shines in feature
SPACE Fury passed a tiring First Time Lucky in upper stretch and eventually claimed victory in the $570,000 City Of Kingston Centenary Cup feature by 1 1/4 lengths at Caymanas Park yesterday.
But it was favoured Mismyrtleboyrichie who hugged the spotlight with his seventh consecutive victory after slamming the Open Allowance company by two lengths. Ridden by Omar Walker, Mismyrtlerichie ran 1,820 metres in 1:55 flat in the eight-horse field of three-year-olds and upward.
Owned by Jigzy Blade and trained Tony Kirlew, the American-bred three-year-old colt came storming forward in the stretch after dismissing the long-time leader Little Wasp, ridden by Georgina Sergeon.
Space Fury, a five-year-old chestnut gelding owned by Norris Phinn and ridden by Paul Francis, was installed a 3-1 bet and ran 1600 metres in a time of 1:41.4 for victory among $550,000 – $500,000 three-year-olds upward.
Sledge, ridden by Shane Ellis, came storming forward on the outside at odds of 19-1 for second, with First Time Lucky, who was confined to sprint distances, but stretched out for the first time, finishing third 2 1/2 lengths back after a gallant to the final 100 metres pole. Guan Yu completed the frame at odds of 7-1 under Andre Martin.
