A frisky hamster named Selena Gomez II
SELENA Gomez II continues to amaze her adoptive parent, five-year-old Julianna of Washington Gardens. The hamster, a surprise ‘sister’ from Julianna’s mom, who had got tired of the child’s requests for a sibling, keeps the family up night and day, debunking the myth that hamsters are nocturnal.
Selena makes no bones about demanding what she wants — a bigger cage had to be purchased as she chewed through the smaller one in protest — and she will raise a ruckus if her food doesn’t contain her favourite sunflower seeds.
And then when she’s all full, it’s entertainment time, as she does acrobatics, hanging by a leg from the roof of the cage, climbing the walls, burrowing under the bedding pile, and running like crazy on the hamster wheel.
Selena’s antics scare her neighbour, the guinea pig Coco, a docile, fat cavy whose days once passed by in a blissful routine of sleeping and eating. No doubt, Selena has rocked the boat, but day by day, Coco seems to be adapting to her new, noisy neighbour.
Selena, named for the American singer/actress, may be tiny, but she’s full of personality, and just proves that big things come in small packages.
