Pollard struggles as Mumbai lose third straight
MUMBAI, India (CMC) — Big-hitting West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard struggled as Mumbai Indians plunged to their third straight defeat in the Indian Premier League, with a 10-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals yesterday.
Pollard could only manage a slow 20 from 18 balls as Mumbai tallied a moderate 133 for five from 20 overs after winning the toss and batting at the Wankhede Stadium.
With runs hard to come by, Rohit Sharma top scored with 58 from 47 balls, while batting legend Sachin Tendulkar hit 31.
Entering at the fall of Tendulkar’s wicket with Mumbai stuttering at 65 for three in the 12th over, Pollard lashed two fours before dragging on to Australian medium pacer Shane Watson (3-19) at the end of the 18th over.
Opener Watson then blasted an unbeaten 89 from 47 balls as the Royals raced to 134 without loss off 13.1 overs.
Pollard’s two overs cost 19 runs, emphasising a lacklustre Mumbai bowling effort that allowed Rahul Dravid to cash in with 43 not out 32 balls.
