SEBA United and Highgate FC look set to gain promotion to the Digicel Premier League (DPL) entering the final round of the play-off series as they are sitting in pole positions.

Both teams lead the four-team group with nine points, two ahead of Cavalier on seven with Rivoli out of contention with one point. Both games are scheduled to start at 3:30 pm.

Seba United have the easier task, playing Rivoli United at the Spanish Town Prison Oval, while it should be a humdinger between Highgate and Cavalier at Grays Inn in St Mary.

Seba need just a draw to return to top-flight football for the first time in three years after being relegated in the 2007/08 season. They should have little difficulty getting by a Rivoli United with nothing to play for but pride.

But things might not be that easy for Seba as based on their last game, Rivoli gave Cavalier a run for their money last Sunday.

The likes of veteran Iton Scott, Kemar James, Jeremie Bucknor, Jovian Daley, Garth Johnson and Torrey Samuels should secure victory for Seba, however.

Seba won the first meeting 1-0 and should be very confident of securing victory and three valuable points.

St Mary’s Highgate are also on the verge of qualification and need just a draw to qualify for the Premier League for the first time in their club’s history.

However, Highgate will have their hands full in containing a Cavalier team hell-bent and making a return to top-flight football for the first time in 15 years.

Nothing much was known of this Highgate outfit but since the play-off started it has been revealed that they are one of, if not the best team in the group.

The Eastern Confederation champions have a number of players with Premier League experience, with the most notably being the Premier League record goalscorer in Roen “Bumpy” Nelson, formerly of Portmore United.

Then there are Carlos Barrett, who played for Portmore United, August Town and Naggo Head; the much-travelled goalkeeper Leighton Murray, Severo Murphy, former Arnett Gardens and Boys’ Town defender Anthowe Dawkins, Barrington James and captain Kwesi Campbell.

Highgate turned in an impressive performance in beating Cavalier 2-0 at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex and now playing at home, are fancied to repeat that win and qualify for the Premier League.

But Cavalier, will not go down without a fight. The KSAFA champions know they need a win and should be firing from all cylinders at Grays Inn.

Last season, the former Premier League champions missed qualification by one point, losing the last game to Benfica of St Ann, and will be hoping to return the favour to Highgate.

Striker Jermaine Gray will have to put on his shooting boots after he missed several chances against Rivoli United last Sunday. A lot will also depend on the likes of Fabian Nethersole, Donovan Alvaranga, former Arnett Gardens’ player Horace “Weed Seed” Sharpe, Oneil Morrison and Loxley Thompson.

It should be an intriguing encounter worth going miles to see and the hungrier team should emerged victorious and into the Premier League next season.
