Invaders, Kinloss hunt lead in Major League final
FALMOUTH, Trelawny — Regular season champions Invaders and Kinloss will clash at the Elliston Wakeland Centre this afternoon in the first-leg final of the Trelawny/National Rums Major League, starting at 3:00 pm.
After nearly five months of competition since the season started in February and impressive wins in the semi-finals, the teams will meet today and Wednesday for the biggest prize money ever in Trelawny, $150,000, while the runners-up will get $75,000.
Even more important, the winner will be promoted to the Western Confederation Super League next season, a step away from the Premier League.
Invaders will have a psychological advantage going into today’s game, having won their return-round encounter 4-2 after drawing the first-round game, 1-1.
With the title at stake, however, this could mean little as despite coming off a loss in their semi-final return game against Granville on Thursday, Kinloss will seek to prove they belong in the final.
Kinloss won their first-leg semi-final 5-1 and were able to cruise in Thursday’s game, which they lost 2-3.
Invaders had an easier passage, beating Flames 4-2 in the first game then drawing 0-0 in the second.
