Fogo returns to West Confed Super League
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Fogo United will be back in the Western Confederation Super League next season, after beating Little Miami 1-0 in their return leg final of the St James Football Association’s Claro Senior League on Sunday.
After drawing 0-0 in the first leg, Fogo United edged the competitive Little Miami on Sunday to grab the $150,000 first prize and a place in the Super League joining Savannah FC of Westmoreland.
O’Brien Robinson scored in the 52nd minute, when he forced a shot between the legs of goalkeeper Chase Smith to break the deadlock.
Fogo will return to the Super League after being relegated two seasons ago.
Little Miami who had knocked out Montego Bay Boys Club in the semi-finals had their chances to score but failed to capitalise, despite dominating late in the game against a tired looking Fogo United.
Meanwhile, in the first game of the double header, underdogs Rosemount FC came from behind three times to beat favorites Norwood Strikers 3-1 on penalties to win the St James Football Association’s Claro Division One title.
Despite Rushane Reid scoring three times, including once in extra time and the Norwood defence preventing Javier Peak from scoring, Rosemount found a way back each time to end at 3-3, before winning it on penalties.
The teams had played to a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the finals played last week.
Norwood was let down by faulty goalkeeping by Dunstan Nicolas, who could be blamed on two of the three goals scored by Joseph Scott, Andre Williams and Calvin Beckford respectively.
This was the second straight final that Norwood was losing after being beaten in the Division Two finals by Kempshot last season but they will however be promoted along with the champions to the Senior League next year.
Both teams were promoted to the Senior League next season.
In the penalty shootout Norwood missed their first two attempts, as Okeefe Brown, Peak and Scott all converted, while Robinson was the only scorer for Norwood.
