Knox, Tacious advance
KNOX College and Tacius Golding High School will advance from their respective zones in the ISSA/Gatorade/Digicel daCosta Cup schoolboys’ football competition for the first time ever after placing second in their zones.
Both schools scored wins on Saturday to confirm their qualifications and placed second behind Manchester High and Old Harbour High respectively who will go on to play the Ben Francis Knock-out.
Knox beat Bellefield High 3-0 to improve to 22 points, well behind Manchester High while Tacius Golding edged former champions Dinthill Technical High 1-0 in Zone J to end their regular season also with 22 points.
They will both get to rest until November 2nd when the Inter-Zone commences.
They will join 15 other schools that have confirmed their places in the Inter-zone while the other seven team will be decided this afternoon when a number of rescheduled games will be played all around the island.
All 24 places were supposed to have been confirmed on Saturday but all-island rain wrecked the schedule forcing games to be played today and the first round of the Ben Francis KO to be pushed back a day to Thursday.
On Saturday, Grange Hill High and Petersfield High from Zone E also booked their places in the next round with Grange Hill beating Mannings School 1-0 to win the zone while Petersfield thrashed Little London High 11-0 for second place.
Little London failed to earn a single point and was one of six schools that did not win a game.
Defending champions Rusea’s High on the other end of the scale completed a perfect first round winning all 12 games, scoring 68 goals along the way as St Elizabeth Technical scored 64 and Clarendon College had 53 goals.
Today, Cornwall College and Spot Valley will meet in a winner takes all clash at Cornwall to decide the winner of Zone A.
Both are on 23 points, one behind St James High who are on 24 and should take the runners-up place.
Spot Valley were the runners-up behind St James High last year and just missed advancing to the quarter-finals but has never beaten Cornwall the 11 times daCosta Cup champions.
Cedric Titus will seek to wrap up the Zone C honours with a win over Browns Town High, while Lennon will seek to edge Edwin Allen out of a spot when they take on Clarendon College who needs only a point to win Zone H.
Glenmuir should secure Zone I honours with a win over Kemps Hill while both spots in both Zone K and L are up for grabs.
