You help us find a path back home
Dear Editor,
This is an open letter to your columnist, Professor Franklin W Knight.
Thank you for writing such an eloquent and meaningful statement about my work. I have received many good responses to your article, “The art of Keith Morrison” in the Observer of October 12. Because of it people have visited my website and interpreted the art for themselves. Some of their responses suggest that my paintings may have touched a cultural chord.
I have received commendation for painting in many places, but none more gratifying than the approval of people from Jamaica, and none more important to me than your article in the Observer. My gratitude to you extends to your scholarship. In developing a clear history of the Caribbean and Jamaica’s place in it, you have forged for us a better understanding of ourselves and our place in the world. Some of us have wandered afar searching for ourselves, but your articulation of our history has helped us find a path back home.
Keith A Morrison
