Ja boast 30 medals on penultimate day of CISC
The Jackie Walter-guided team has Jamaica picked up another eight medals, including three gold, on Tuesday at the XIX Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships in Savaneta, Aruba.
Jamaica increased their medal tally to 30 on the penultimate day of the championships.
Dominic Walter swam a meet record 4:10.58 to take the gold in the Boys 18 & Over 400m freestyle. Walter broke Trinidad & Tobago Matthew Houllier’s old mark of 4:12.87 set in 2004.
Dominican Republic’s Radhmes Kalaff was second in 4:11.76 with Dillon Willem of Aruba third in 4:25.93.
Kevaughn Campbell posted 32.06 seconds to cop gold in the Boys 13-14 50m breaststroke, with Dominican Republic’s Alexander Rodriguez and Grenadian Corey Ollivierre sharing the silver with identical times of 32.22 seconds.
In the Girls 15-17 200m backstroke, Alexia Royal-Eatmon delivered gold after clocking 2:29.64. US Virgin Islands’ Caylee Watson and Barbadian Deandre Small got the other medals timing of 2:31.91 and 2:36.81, respectively.
In the Girls 15-17 50m breaststroke, Breanna Roman registered 34.24 seconds for silver. Suriname’s Evita Leter triumphed with 33.53 seconds, while Trinidad & Tobago’s Alexandria Donahue got the bronze with a time of 34.54.
Ramon Walton added another silver for Jamaica when he swam 2:19.37 in the Boys 18 & Over 200m backstroke, won by the Dominican Republic’s Jean Luis Gomez in a time of 2:10.20. Anthony Edwards of Trinidad & Tobago was third in 2:20.06.
Matthew Lyn placed second in the Boys 13-14 200m backstroke which was won by Trinidad & Tobago’s Jabari Baptiste who clocked 2:16.14. Lyn timed 2:22.63, while Suriname’s Michael Grauwde was third in 2:24.72.
Lyn also got the bronze in the Boys 13-14 400m freestyle, clocking 4:19.73. Barbadian Christian Selby won in 4:13.37, ahead of Aruba’s Mikel Schreuders, 4:18.29.
Another bronze for Jamaica came from Annastazia Chin in the Girls 11-12 200m backstroke after timing 2:39.82. Puerto Rican Migsha Cloquell won logging 2:38.12, while Bermudan Shannon Hassell grabbed the silver with a time of 2:39.76
After five days of competition, Jamaica have nine gold, 10 silver, 11 bronze medals. They surpassed the 26 medals won at the 2010 championships in Cuba when they finished seventh with three gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze.
