Malcolm wins double in Jnr Tennis Classic

TRYALL, Hanover — Nicholas Malcolm was the only double winner at the Pan Caribbean Bank Junior Tennis Classic that ended at the Tryall Club on Sunday.

Malcolm won the Boys’ Under 16 and Under 18 titles, beating Roshane Henry on both occasions while Phadria Kepple upset defending champion Shellita Haughton in three sets 6/3, 0/6, 10/6 to take the Girls Under 18 title.

More than 100 players from across the island participated in the tournament, the largest in its four-year history.

Two other players — Shae-Ann Kameka and Iesha Sterling — were also double finalists.

Malcolm droped just six games to Henry in both finals, winning both in straight sets and taking the Under 18 title in 6-0, 6-1 and the Under 16 in 6/4, 6/1.

Kepple held off Haughton 6/3, 0/6, 10/6 to take over as the number-one ranked player in the age group from the former champion.

Nickle beat Kameka in a close three sets to win the Girls Under 16 3/6, 6/1 and 10/8, while Kameka won the Girls Under 14 over Iesha Sterling in straight sets — 6/0, 6/0.

Sterling won the Girls Under 12 title, beating Jenna Harrison 6/1, 7/5.

Other winners were Mia Sampson in the Girls Under 10, Simeon Davis in the Boys’ Under 10, Myles Harison in the Boys Under 12 and Daniel Hill in the Boys Under 14.
