KINGSTON, Jamaica- The police are working on the theory that retired senior superintendent Tony Hewitt may have been murdered as a result of a contract killing.

Four men have been handed over to the police by their lawyer after Hewitt was shot and killed on Sunday while visiting an apartment complex on the outskirts of the capital.

Police believe he was trailed and killed after he drove into a gated community on Donmair Avenue in St Andrew, where he was shot multiple times.

The men have been detained for the killing of the retired cop and as of yesterday were being questioned by the Constant Spring Police.

Three suspects, Jermaine ‘Duppy Bat’ Smith, Richard ‘Red Head’ Francis and Jomo McLeod, were named as persons of interest by the police and turned themselves in on Monday.

A fourth man was taken in yesterday.

They were interrogated in the presence of their lawyer Christopher Tavares-Finson.

Tavares-Finson told the Jamaica Observer then that he was waiting to hear from the police on the next step in the process.

“We are prepared to co-operate fully with the police,” the lawyer said.
