Wolmer’s Dance Troupe celebrates Jamaica 50
The Wolmer’s Dance Troupe will pay tribute to Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of independence during this year’s performance season set for the Little Theatre in St Andrew this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the company and artistic director Barbara McDaniel says this year will feature some special moments.
“It’s all Jamaican, with the exception of one piece which is a tribute to R&B songstress Whitney Houston who died earlier this year. However, within this Whitney piece is a tribute to Jamaican Olympian, sprint star Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce. So even in the one non-Jamaican piece we have found a way to make it local.”
McDaniel adds that this year more than 100 dancers, ranging in ages from 4-16, will take to the stage each night.
