Dear Editor,

I just became aware of the murder of Dr Barrington Dixon by reading one of your articles, and I immediately said to myself, here we are again mourning someone who has selflessly devoted his life to the betterment of our country. I recalled there was a time when even criminals of the worst kind understood that there are certain members of our society who should be left alone.

I am not suggesting that the life of a doctor is worth more than anyone else’s, but at least criminals in the past had some respect or empathy for the old, the women, the children, and for people who were major contributors to the furtherance of our nation. Now I wonder if this crime will go unsolved. I wonder if those who have information concerning this murder and have not said a word know that they are committing an egregious sin and will be held accountable, if not in this world, then the next.

Those who have sat on the fence and do nothing to prevent crime will one day fall victim to crime. I am not being prophetic, I am just being logical. The best way to honour Dr Dixon is to seek justice. What sense does it make to say that this man was great and give all the accolades if we are not willing to do something about crime. Let it be known that the government without the assistance of the citizens will never be able to reduce crime to any significant level. We must all get involved and do our part, covertly if necessary, to end this crime epidemic.
