SEVERAL charities are expected to benefit from the Phoenix Lodge #914 and Sterling Asset Management’s annual Charity Golf Tournament set for Constant Spring Golf Club on Saturday, beginning at 9:00 am.

These include the Masonic Children’s Fund, National Disaster Fund, Port Royal Basic School and Port Royal Scholarship Fund. Proceeds from the event will also be used to establish an Anniversary Scholarship to commemorate the Lodge’s 150th year of existence.

According to Marian Ross, Sterling’s business development officer, “Our partnership with the Phoenix Lodge has been an enjoyable and a highly successful one.

“This year is our third renewal as joint partners and hosts of the tournament. The event is usually well patronised and participants include some of the best in their class, including some of our own clients.

“Last year, we attracted some 85 golfers, which is a testimony to the strong belief that it is a worthwhile venture with which to be associated.”

Highlights of the event will be an 18-hole individual Stapleford of 7/8 with handicap in four flights, as well as pairings of groups of three and four. The tournament closes with a prize-giving ceremony at 6:00 pm.

Last year, organisers presented over 25 prizes. Ossie Lee copped the top prize as overall winner; Sterling client Dr Tommy Lee captured the 0-9 category; Andre Foote the 10-18; Earl Edwards the 19-24. and Stuart Fisher the over 25.

Lee won the award for longest drive while JD Dunstan copped the prize for being ‘nearest to the pin’.

Crystal Gayle nabbed the top prize in the Ladies category; Rochell Prince was awarded ‘nearest to the pin’, while Michelle Gabay had the longest drive.

That tournament also featured students of Swing Solutions in a Junior tournament with winners in the U-13 and U-15 categories receiving prizes.
