MONTEGO BAY, St James – A security guard employed to a plaza in Montego Bay who was allegedly caught on surveillance camera breaking into a store in the same plaza was last week offered bail when he was brought to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court.

Clyde Morris, a 26-year-old security guard of a Crawford Street, Mt Salem address was offered bail in the sum of $200,000 with one or two sureties and will return to court on December 27. As a condition of his bail he is to report to the Mt Salem police three days a week until the case is over, Resident Magistrate Sharon Barnes also ruled.

It was heard that the owner of the store left her establishment just after midnight on October 8 and when she returned later that morning observed that several items were missing. The police were called and when footage of the security camera was viewed a man was seen in several stores on the plaza.

In relation to the specific charge against Morris, the police allege that he gained access to the store through a window above the door.

Morris, whom the court was told has a conviction for a similar incident in 2007, was interviewed by police when he showed up for work later that day and a watch he was wearing was identified by the complainant as one she was missing.

The accused man, however, denied stealing the watch, the court heard. However, after failing to locate a receipt the police say he admitted he had stolen the item.
