Fair & Fun

Fair Prospect High School

LAST week TEENage Expression Tours made a stop at Fair Prospect High in the beautiful parish of Portland, and what a day it was.

The staff members were hospitable and the students filled with energy and excitement. Fair Prospect really gave us quite a variation of talents and even offered their own hostess.

After setting up and gathering all the performers, the show began.

First up was Jason Benjamin with his rendition of the popular gospel song Tomorrow by Cece Winans. Following his performance was Mario Reid reciting the dub poem A Who A Di Owna Fi Di Ile. He was accompanied by Garrett Robinson on the drum and together these boys gave a spectacular performance.

Up next was Donisha Raymond with another dub poem Sumn Fi Seh by D Nash Perkins. This young lady with her powerful vocals gave us an amazing performance. The Fair Prospect Drummers were next. Along with drums, these creative young men used a grater and even two sticks to entertain the audience with their captivating beats.

The energetic Future Dancers promptly followed. Their dance routine was not only creative, but it infused the audience with energy and left the crowd screaming with excitement.

Our first break from all the ‘awesomeness’ came in the form of two trivia questions which saw Akeem Forth and Shyan Bryan victorious.

Jumping right back into the show we started up again with the Sensational Singers. This group of five moved us with their sensational rendition of Alicia Keys’ Doesn’t Mean Anything. Brittany Ellis, Twila Pearce and Roberta Williams were up next with their lively dub poem Money Ah Run, a piece created by their teacher Davia Marshall.

Another trivia question had the students guessing the Cool Fruit Flavours. Much laughter was had as students raced to the stage to answer and, after many attempts, it was Amanda Ricketts, who answered correctly for the win.

Kellee Merchant, with her original poem Drug Abused Conscience, had the students laughing it up as she engaged them with her poetry. Following her was the Fair Prospect Cultural Dance Group, who gave a very invigorating dance while infusing a little culture into the show. They gave a noteworthy performance as both the students and judges seemed to enjoy it.

Up next were the PPAJ Dance Group; after a minor glitch in their performance this group really picked up the pace as they wowed us with their awesome Gangnam Style.

Kimoy and Company were next with the first skit of the day entitled Good Girls Gone Bad, a piece created by another teacher, Shana-Kay Clarke. These students gave an impressive performance and received much applause when they were through.

The excitement continued as the students’ Cool Fruit Drink-off followed. After guzzling down two boxes of Cool Fruit it was Twila Pearce who finished first, much to the delight of the audience.

The talent segment of the show ended with Teerah Myers, who gave a touching performance entitled Three Children Gunned Down an original piece, which mellowed the audience.

It was now time for the judges Ann Marie Walsh, Coleen Salmon, Renardo Jones, and TEENage Observer Co-ordinator Monique Edwards Davis to tally the scores and decide the winner.

While they did that, guest artistes Junior X, Adventurous and Cosa Nostra entertained the audience with some inspirational lyrics.

After their performance the winners were announced by the hostess for the day Zarah Buckley. In third place was the Fair Prospect Cultural Dance Group, in second, with their skit ‘Good Girls Gone Bad’ were Kimoy and company. First-place winner and a chance to perform at the TEENage Observer Expression Tours finals in July were the Future Dancers.
