Young Boyz lose World Cup place to Canada
CHORRERA, Panama— The Young Reggae Boyz suffered a defensive implosion to lose 2-4 to Canada in the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship quarter-final match at the Estadio Muquita Sanchez Saturday
With the win, Canada booked a spot in the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates later this year.
Khallil Stewart scored for the Wendell Downswell-conditioned Jamaicans in the fifth and 43rd minutes to ensure the Jamaicans entered the interval with a 2-1 lead after Andrew Gordon (37th minute) pulled one back for Canada.
After the interval Hanson Boakai (61th minute) pulled the Canada team into the match with a scrambled effort.
The Canadians, guided by head coach Sean Fleming, took the lead and held it with Gordon’s second strike in the 75th and substitute Jordan Hamilton’s header (79th minute) as the Jamaica defence suffered a shocking meltdown.
