My Kingston – Frank Guyton

Celebrity Make-up Artist & Black Opal Artistic Director

What are your most distinct memories of Kingston?

I love the beauty, the women, the culture, the jerk chicken, food and the Caribbean Sea. It’s luscious here.

What has been your most memorable meal in Kingston?

Jamaica is notorious for jerk chicken. I had amazing jerk chicken at Scotchies. The food was delicious.

What places would you recommend as must-visit locations to a first-time visitor to Kingston?

I highly recommend Bob Marley Museum, and my dad drove me to see the Blue Mountains — that was fun.

What is your beverage of choice?

Appleton Jamaica Rum.

What cologne are you splashing?

I wear CREED Silver Mountain Water.

Share the title of the last book you read.

I Declare by Joel Osteen.

What was the last bit of music you listened to that you really enjoyed?

I’m glad you asked this. I love Justin Timberlake 20/20 Experience. The album is great.

Share a few places in your travel book…

Japan, Paris, London, South Africa, Milan, Germany.

Where’s the place you head to when you need to escape it all?

I’m into meditation, spirituality and positive energy.

What new projects are you currently working on?

A great new project I’m working on is the 2014 Beauty Campaign for Black Opal. I’m going back to New York to shoot the global new campaign. You will be able to see that in the coming months.

How did you get into this field?

Completely by default. I have a background in advertising, and a celebrity make-up artist 10 years ago asked me to join his team to help build his cosmetic line, and I said yes. We shared the same aesthetic of luxury and beauty. He invited me to watch him work with his celebrity clients, and I accepted the offer. His clientele included Hollywood A-Listers. It was a great opportunity, to meet these people. As soon as I saw him pick up a brush and transform a woman, I saw how the woman responded to how she looked and how she felt confident. I said I want to be a part of that! I wanted to make women feel good, empowered, so that they can feel their best at all times.

What is your life philosophy?

Love thyself and find God in your life.
