INDECOM probing shooting death of St Ann farmer
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) says it has processed the scene where a civilian was shot in Claremont, St Ann Monday and the weapons of the cops involved sent to the Government Forensic Laboratory for ballistics testing.
INDECOM has also swabbed the hands of the cops and served notices requesting statements, the Commission said.
Leroy Henry Jr, a 28-year-old farmer, was shot and killed by the police after they pursued three men believed to have been involved in a robbery.
Reports from the police are that a robbery was committed outside a bank in St Ann and three men escaped in a motor car.
The car was subsequently spotted by the police and a chase ensued.
According to the police the driver of the motor car allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed.
The men reportedly exited the vehicle and ran into nearby bushes where a shootout followed during which one man was shot and injured.
He was to taken the St Ann’s Bay Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
One of the other men was taken into custody while the whereabouts of the third is unknown.
No weapons were recovered in the shooting incident.
Residents however gave conflicting accounts of how the incident unfolded contending that the police shot Henry in cold blood.
