Flow Champions Cup rolls off today
THE clash of National Premier League outfits Humble Lion and Cavalier at Effortville Community Centre will highlight the opening round of the Flow Champions Cup Knockout tournament today at 3:00 pm.
Following an absence of one year, the Flow Champions Cup returns with the champion teams from the 14 parishes, along with the 12 National Premier League clubs vying for the $1m winning prize.
The competition that will be played over an eight-week period will see two St Mary teams in Highgate United and Axum Sports Club clashing at Gray’s Inn Complex.
Exchange United of St Ann travel to Barbican FC of Kingston and St Andrew, and Port Morant United of St Thomas welcome Eagle Strikers of Portland at York Oval.
Boys’ Town are the defending champions and will join the competition in the second round on September 18 along with the five other National Premier League clubs that finished in the top six.
They are Harbour View, Waterhouse, Portmore United, Arnett Gardens and Tivoli Gardens.
In a new feature, the four quarter-final games will be played as double headers on October 2 and 3, as night games.
The semi-finals are set for October 14, and the grand finale on October 28.
The Flow Champions Cup winner will receive the trophy and cash incentive of $1 million, while the runner-up will earn $400,000.
The beaten semi-finalists will pocket $200,000 each, and the losing quarter-finalists will get $90,000 apiece.
The Most Valuable Player will walk away with $70,000; top goalscorer $50,000, and coach of the winning team $50,000.
The competition will continue on Thursday with an all-Clarendon clash with Sporting Central Academy playing Jamalco FC at Clarendon Park; Savannah SC of Westmoreland tackling Holland United of Trelawny at Frome; St Elizabeth’s Black Star hosting Logwood United of Hanover at New Town; New Green of Manchester vying against Reggae Youths of St James at Brooks Park.
Westmoreland’s Sandals Whitehouse FC play Rivoli United of St Catherine at Crocs Lawn, and Montego Bay United of St James tackle urban team Rockfort FC at Wespow Park.
