Back to school again —Ative Ennis (AE)
Name: Ative Ennis (AE)
Position at Digicel: Head of Enterprise Solutions
High School Attended: Munro College
Year Started: 1987
Year Graduated: 1992
teenAGE: Do you remember the feelings you had the first day of high school?
AE: I felt nervous and liberated at the same time. I was going to a boarding school, and this was my first experience living away from home, so I didn’t quite know what to expect. In addition to this, I had heard a lot of stories about “ragging” from current and past students which created some anxiety and heightened the suspense. The experience also liberated me because I was now growing up and gaining my independence from home.
teenAGE: What was the most memorable occurrence that year?
AE: My most memorable experience that year was my blistering third leg on the Class 4, 4×100 metre relay at Sports Day for Dickenson House; that helped to dethrone Pearon Calder, who were our bitter rivals at the time. My career in athletics was very short-lived.
teenAGE: What would you tell your 11-year-old self now?
AE: Listen more and say less — I was a mouthpiece in school. Also, don’t wait until the night before exams to start studying. And, practice humility.
teenAGE: What advice would you give to first formers?
AE: Don’t follow the crowd and always maintain your individuality. Why try to fit in when you already stand-out? Study hard and listen to your teachers. Learn the history of your school and embrace the culture. Get involved and join a service club, this will help with your college application later on. Have lots of fun… enjoy your youth!
