Former STETHS striker stamps his class for Jamaica
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Striker Deshorn Brown was the pride of South Central Jamaica during the last two games of Jamaica’s failed World Cup qualifying campaign.
A native of Turner Top in South Manchester and a star in the St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) daCosta Cup winning team of 2009, Brown brought speed and verve to Jamaican attacks on his international debut against the United States in Kansas City on October 11. The USA won that game 2-0.
The 22-year-old Brown then had reason to celebrate last Tuesday night during Jamaica’s 2-2 draw against Honduras at the National Stadium.
Responding to an early opening goal from the visitors, the six-foot two-inch striker capped a pacy, tricky run through the inside right channel with a powerful, angled shot which deflected into goal off a defender’s legs to bring the Reggae Boyz level.
Brown who also represented Downs in the Manchester league during his teenage years was the leading daCosta Cup scorer with 26 goals for STETHS during the 2009 season.
From STETHS, he moved on to the University of Mobile, Alabama, and later the University of Central Florida.
He joined US Major League Soccer (MLS) earlier this year — recruited by the Colorado Rapids as the sixth overall pick in the first round of the MLS SuperDraft.
