Gore leads JA into CMRC final
JAMAICA’S Doug Gore is going all out for victory in the 2013 Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC) final event at the South Dakota circuit, Guyana, this Sunday.
“I will break the lap record. But I’m not sure about by how much yet,” Gore told Auto.
Gore’s optimism comes as he heads to a resurfaced circuit where he currently holds the lap record of 1:33.3 minutes done in 2011. ABT Sportsline DTM race engineer Franco Chiocchetti will also be present for the final time as his job will be to set the car up for the circuit. Gore’s Audi TT-R DTM will still don the ATL Racing colours.
“The plan is to practise on Friday [today] and translate that data into a race trim for qualifying tomorrow and raceday on Sunday,” explained Gore.
According to Gore, there are multiple gear ratios and suspension settings available to be used at South Dakota, given its new flat, smooth surface. In terms of competition, he expects it to come from an old acquaintance — the Lancer Evolution driven by Guyanese local Kevin ‘Bush Cow’ Jeffrey. The car used to belong to Gore. Jeffrey also holds the second fastest time at the track.
Gore’s real fear comes as he is still aware of the need to retain his points lead in the CMRC.
“Given how fast I think the Audi will be and the largest number of CMRC competitors to date, lap traffic might become an issue,” he said.
Three other drivers will represent Jamaica: Peter Rae, Noel Golding Jr, and Gary Williams. Rae, having the most experience with the new surface, is looking forward to the race.
“Tyres have been my problem all year. I’ve finally been able to source what I need out of England, so qualifying tomorrow will be interesting,” Rae said.
