A well-played half-century by O’Brian Duncan and a three-wicket haul by Bradley Jacks help Kingston College (KC) defeat Innswood High School by 18 runs in the inaugural 2014 Watch Out Fi Dis Schools’ Invitational Twenty20 championship yesterday at Chedwin Park.

Scores: Kingston College (177-7 from 20 overs); Innswood High (159-9 from 20 overs).

Batting first, Duncan led the way with a superb knock of 57 for KC. He smashed three fours and two sixes off a mere 29 deliveries, and also shared in a 67-run second-wicket partnership with Maurice Brown, who blasted 38 from 20 balls, which included three fours and a six. Jamie Hay then chipped in with 18 (13 balls) which contained three fours, and Oshane Wright (15) then made sure their team posted a respectable total.

Martino Bloomfield was Innswood’s best bowler, with four for 26 from four overs.

In reply, Innswood got off to a strong start, but Jacks took three wickets in the last over to restrict them to 159-9 from their allotted 20 overs. Bloomfield led the run chase with a well-deserved half-century of 52 from 35 deliveries. He struck four fours and three sixes, while captain Jeavor Royal supported with a 35-ball 42 that contained five fours and a six. Needing 20 runs from the last over, Jacks removed Jemoye Forbes (one), Kevaugh Lothan (one) and Omario Wallace (zero) to formalise KC’s victory.

Jacks finished with three wickets for 13 runs from three overs, and was assisted by Romario Hanchard (4-32-2) and Wright (4-25-2).

In the second game at the venue, Manchester High crushed Excelsior High by nine wickets. Winning the toss and taking first strike, Excelsior posted 49-7 from their 20 overs. Dandre O’Gilvie 25 (41) and Romario Brown 15 not out from 30 balls were the only batsman to score double figures against Nicholas Walters (2-5) and Roshane Hamilton (2-11).

In reply, Manchester cruised to their target off just 8.1 overs reaching 50-1. Claude Witter not out on 23 and Nigel Francis not out on 10 made sure their team surpassed the target comfortably.

Scores: Excelsior (49-7 from 20 overs); Manchester (50-1 from 8.1 overs).

Elsewhere at Port Esquivel, Vere Technical easily dispatched Eltham High by 10 wickets.

Scores: Eltham 48-all out from 17 overs (Ryan Burnell 2-2, Lasana Turner 2-3); Vere Technical 53-0 from six overs (Rohan Ferguson 28, Randre Christie 13).

Also at the same venue, St Jago High School defeated Jamaica College by six wickets.

Scores: Jamaica College 43-all out from 15 overs (Courtney Dowdie 11, Dushane Carty 3-7); St Jago High 44-4 from 17.3 overs (Nicholas Simpson 18, Gyasi Falconer 3-10).

The competition continues today with semi-final action at Chedwin Park. In the first game at 9:30 am, KC will oppose St Jago, while in the second game at 1:30 pm, Manchester High face Vere Technical.
