MONTEGO BAY, St James — Sav Elite Titans will go after a sixth straight win as they take on Avalanche at the UWI Western Campus courts today as they prepare for this weekend’s midseason celebrations in the National Supplies-sponsored Western Basketball Association’s Men’s Championships.

Sav have won the previous five matches played to be on 10 points, one behind Knibb Thunder and Cornwall Courts Chargers and a win would secure their place in the midseason championships game.

Avalanche are also eyeing a place in the game on Saturday and are on four wins and a loss and a win would leave four teams with the same statistics.

In the first game set for 6:00 pm, Spartans will meet Holland Saints as both teams play out the first round obligations.

Meanwhile, over the weekend, Cornwall Courts Chargers and Knibb Thunder both scored good wins to place themselves in positions to advance to the mid-season game.

On Saturday, Chargers beat Granville Wolfpack 53-49, while Thunder were 46-40 winners over Lightning Blitz.

Omar Biggs scored 16 points for Chargers and Detroy Jewery scored 13 points as they rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Granville by four points after trailing by four at halftime.

Thunder also had to rally late after trailing Blitz 10-14 and 20-25 after the first and second quarters. Blitz could only manage three points the entire third quarter and Thunder took advantage to establish a 35-28 lead that they held to the end.

Three players Don-Michael Fray, Shavaughn Reid and Daniel Henry all got nine points each for Thunder, while Daniel Malcolm had a gamehigh 12 points for Blitz.

Boys’ Club Warriors handed UWI their sixth straight loss, 48-37, while Montego Bay Community College Gladiators also dropped their sixth straight, courtesy of a 56-51 victory by Muschett Falcons, despite a gamehigh 25 points from Clifton Shettleworth, including four three pointers in the second half.
