Domino comes to Caymanas Park
THE inaugural Caymanas Track Limited domino competition for the Chairman’s Trophy kicked off on Friday, May 9, where the company’s CEO Cedric Stewart declared the competition opened.
The competition which offers cash prizes totaling $90,000, will see 10 teams participating in a league format with matches playing every Friday starting at 6:00 pm (except Friday, May 23, Labour Day) until Friday, July 11, in the grand stand at Caymanas Park.
The competing teams are: Gate Attendants/Racing; Jockeys/Valets/Agents; Garage; Grooms; Engineers/Guest; Trainers/Owners; Hi-Tech/Punters; Property/Blacksmiths; Security; and part sponsor Nutramix, who donated tables and dominoes for the competition.
The top four teams at the end of the league will qualify for the semi-finals slated for Friday, July 18, with the top two going on to compete for the top prize of $50,000 and the Chairman’s Trophy on Sunday, July 20. The beaten finalists will receive $25,000 with the third-place team getting $15,000.
The competition is run under the watchful eyes of the Jamaica Domino Federation.
On the opening day, Hi-Tech/Punters cleaned up Gate Attendants/Racing 100 to 87; Grooms polish off Property/Blacksmiths 100 to 95; Nutramix took Garage to the processing plant 100 to 81; Engineer/Guest wired up Jockeys/Valets/Agents 100 to 93; and in a pulsating match, Trainers/Owners breach the Security dragnet 100 to 99.
Today’s matches, will see Nutramix facing Hi-Tech/Punters; Property/Blacksmiths vs Jockeys/Valets/Agents; Gate Attendants/Racing taking on Security; Trainers/Owners against Garage and Engineer/Guest battling Grooms.
