KINGSTON Paradise, a Jamaican feature film by Mary Wells, has been nominated for the Best Diaspora Feature for the African Movie Academy Awards scheduled for May 24 in Nigeria.

Three other films are also nominated.

The African Movie Academy Awards, now in its 10th year, is a celebration of African heritage and culture and is labelled the Africa’s Oscars.

Kingston Paradise will also debut at the famous Cannes Film Market 2014 (Marche du Cannes) on next Monday. It will be represented by the Los Angeles-based film company California Pictures.

“We are excited and thrilled to debut Kingston Paradise at the Cannes Market for distribution and we will be screening the film at the Grand Palais at Cannes,” said their president, Steve Istock.

With the far-reaching networks of CaribbeanTales (also one of the film’s Executive Producers), the deal negotiated offers the film a very unique opportunity for broad and international exposure that is nearly unprecedented for a small independent Caribbean film of this nature.

“It is very difficult to attract international distribution and from such a company. With its awards received to date, the AMAA nomination and now this deal with California Pictures, there are some great additional possibilities,” said Wells.

Kingston Paradise is an off-beat urban thriller that follows Rocksy and his lady friend Rosie.

The film stars Chris ‘Johnny’ Daley, Munair Zacca, Camille Small, Greggory Nelson and Paul Shoucair, alongside other amazing local cast and local and international crew. It’s also produced by Mary Wells and Frances-Anne Solomon and its original music score is by acclaimed Canadian composer John Welsman.
