THE St Luke’s Anglican Church in Cross Roads, St Andrew is again on the hunt for money to fund its many outreach programmes.

The church will stage one of its fund-raising activities this afternoon, with a concert called ‘Reggae Jazz & Blues Go Gospel’ at its 89 Slipe Road location.

Among the featured artistes are Ernie Smith, Sparrow Martin & Friends, Yahnii Righteous, Mary Isaacs, DiMario McDowell, Charmaine Lemonius, Maurice Henry, Celia Christie-Samuels, and Rev Leslie Mowatt.

There is an admission fee of $1,500.

Church officials have said that the institution’s demand for support from the public had grown in recent times, what with the worsening economic situation and increases in the cost of living, compounded by limited employment opportunities.

Included in the church’s support programmes are its weekly feeding programme, the Soup Kitchen, the St Luke’s Home for the Aged, two tertiary scholarships, and funding for the St Simon’s Basic School in nearby Jones Town.

The church too, has been forced to support individuals from nearby communities who often turn up for help with their school fees, school books, work tools, basic food items, bus fares, and other needed items.

“Under these circumstances, our mandate has to extend beyond just meeting the spiritual needs of our membership, to responding in a meaningful way to human suffering and need in the wider community,” the church’s rector, Archdeacon Patrick Cunningham stated.
