PATIENTS of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) will have their spirits lifted as they enjoy the salubrious new environs created by Scotiabank in the green area beside the waiting room. The space, specially designed to include a wet wall and rock garden, has been landscaped with palms and flowers and also boasts a curved stone walkway.

“We are always glad to be part of projects that have longevity. This kind of project will be appreciated by patients for years to come,” said executive director of Scotia Foundation Joylene Griffiths Irving.

Scotiabank was invited by the group Friends of the Hospital to work with them on refurbishing a green area as part of the hospital’s Labour Day initiative.

Medical Officer for KPH and chairman of the group Friends of the Hospital, Natalie Whylie Senior said she is thrilled about the partnership. “What Scotiabank has done is aesthetic, but a better environment is very therapeutic for patients,” she said.

Scotiabank through its branches worked on projects in several parishes for Labour Day 2014. Some of these included painting of post offices in Mandeville, Manchester, Port Maria in St Mary and Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, as well as the painting of a mural at the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre in St Andrew.
