Happy 100th Test, Chris!
FORGET back troubles and other aching limbs. Christopher Gayle is mentally willing — even if not 100 per cent physically ready — to play his hundredth Test match when West Indies and New Zealand march out for battle in the first Test at Sabina Park in Jamaica, beginning today.
Lurching on 99 career Test matches since the tour of India in November 2013 and missing out on number 100 due to injury weeks later in New Zealand, the big left-handed opener is adamant that reaching the milestone will not escape him this time.
To fortify the 34-year-old’s resolve and to complete the proverbial circle, the match is to be played on his home turf in Kingston.
It appears that destiny has ordained that the Kiwis be the opposition when he arrives at the landmark.
