Scotiabank ‘A’ secure Business House Open League netball crown
SCOTIABANK ‘A’ made easy work of Jamaica Broilers registering a 51-29 win to capture the 2014 Business House Netball Association (BHNA) Open League competition at the Leila Robinson Courts, Independence Park Complex, National Stadium, on Saturday.
The Winston Nevers-coached bankers dominated play from the opening first quarter to the end. “It was a good win for the players as it was all a team effort.
“What we planned was to put pressure early on Broilers and try and dominate and take control of the centre court position. The third and fourth quarters we stepped up the pace and as a result of occupying control of mid-court goal began coming easily,” Nevers said.
Meanwhile, the format of the final was changed to four 10-minute quarters, instead of the usual two halves of 15 minutes each, making the game longer than what they played in the preliminary rounds.
The early exchanges of the first quarter was fairly even until Scotiabank ‘A’ pulled away as a result of good shooting from captain Marsha Murphy-Dawkins, which resulted in a 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Broilers never produced too much in the second quarter to trouble the bankers, who stretched their lead to 25-16 at the half-time interval.
Third quarter action also belonged to Scotiabank ‘A’ who led 37-22 entering the final break.
The Consolation Knockout final was won by Wisynco ‘A’ who defeated Grace Kennedy 26-23, while Digicel Jamaica Limited got the better of National Housing Trust (NHT) ‘A’ 18-15 in the third-place play-off.
Transport Authority of Jamaica got the better of Scotiabank ‘B’ 32-26 to capture third place in the Open League competition.
