Barbican, Arnett Gardens clash in Women’s Premier League

ARNETT Gardens FC will put their unbeaten run on the line when they face off against defending champions Barbican FC in Zone A of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Sherwin Williams Women’s Premier League at Barbican Complex today.

All games are scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm.

Arnett Gardens will be looking to follow up on Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Olympic Gardens FC, but this fixture represents their toughest task to date and they will have to capitalise on every chance created if they are to keep their unbeaten record intact.

Victory for the Orlando Clarke-coached outfit will place them firmly atop the standings as joint leaders Waterhouse FC will not be in action today.

However, five-time consecutive champions Barbican FC, who are currently in third place, are coming off a rest day and will be fairly fresh and energised following last weekend’s 10-0 thrashing of Rangers FC in their opening fixture.

The game is set to spark some fireworks as Barbican’s leading strikers Tashana Vincent and Tasheka Small will ensure that their opponents’ defence line is kept busy, while Arnett Gardens will be anticipating positive performances from Shantel Bailey and Asheina Nelson.

Other Zone A games will see fourth-placed Portmore Strikers FC visiting Olympic Gardens FC, and Trelawny Women’s FC welcoming St Mary’s Rangers FC.

The closely contested Zone B will see the brutal GC Foster College, current leaders with six points, playing at home to UWI Women’s FC (three points), while Los Perfectos FC (three points) will be seeking to make it two-from-two when they face a young Boys’ Town outfit, currently struggling at the bottom of the table.

Former champions Harbour View FC (three points) will welcome St James Women’s Academy (three points), who were devastated 6-0 in their last fixture.

— Sherdon Cowan
