Four Jamaicans win at Birmingham Diamond League
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Four Jamaicans, Commonwealth Games champions Kaliese Spencer and Kemar Bailey-Cole along with Nickel Ashmeade and Kerron Stewart all secured victories at the IAAF Diamond League meeting held Sunday in Birmingham, England.
Spencer easily took the 400m hurdles; Bailey-Cole chased and caught a fast starting Nesta Carter in the men’s 100m, Stewart won the competitive women’s 100m while Ashmeade upset Diamond leader Alonso Edward in the men’s 200m.
The results in the men’s and women’s 100m and the men’s 200m left the Diamond Races wide open as the season winds down. Spencer is the Diamond winner in the women’s 400 metre hurdles.
Ashmeade who is chasing the Diamond that was won by compatriot Warren Weir last season, ran 20.33 seconds to hold off the hard charging Edward for the win while Commonwealth Games champion Rasheed Dwyer was third in 20.58 seconds.
Another Jamaican Jason Livermore, the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist was fifth in 20.80 seconds.
