KIWANIANS from several clubs in New York will visit Jamaica from August 28 to 31 to conduct a Children’s Wellness Service Project in Runaway Bay, St Ann.

The Kiwanians will partner with the Discovery Bay Kiwanis club for a service project to provide children in the Runaway Bay area with back to

school supplies, wellness education, and dental hygiene materials, as well as swimming and road safety information, which is part of the Kiwanis International Safe Kids Programme.

The 25-member contingent will include a nurse, a dental hygienist, educators, and other professionals whose goal aligns with the Kiwanis vision of changing the world one child and one community at a time.

The wellness service project will be held on Saturday at the Moving Church of God Hall in Runaway Bay. The Discovery Bay club

will receive a Kiwanis Paediatric Trauma Kit.

Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis International, Queens East Division of New York, Nodia Chambers, who is Jamaican, pointed out that the idea for the project was born because of Ann Torcivia, a travel agent

and current Lieutenant Governor of the Long Island South Central Division of Kiwanis. On vacation to different countries, she would travel with back to school supplies for local kids with funding from the Joey Foundation, a non-profit organisation established in memory of her son.

This year, Runaway Bay was chosen for the wellness project because of a connection that was made with fellow Kiwanians from the Discovery Bay club on a former visit to the Jewels Hotel in Runaway Bay, where Torcivia fell in love with the resort.
