MANDEVILLE, Manchester — The Manchester People’s Choice Award — aimed at recognising high achievers in various spheres — was staged for the third time, earlier this month.

Promoted as more than an awards show, the event at Belair High School featured a mini business expo to highlight young entrepreneurs.

Eleven nominated candidates were selected by a panel to receive awards of excellence and 13 others emerged winners in their respective professions via public voting over a two-month period.

Mayor of Mandeville Brenda Ramsay copped the inaugural Cecil Charlton Award for Excellence in Civil Service.

Martin Greaves, who is originally from Manchester but resides in New York, said the idea for the event came about as he saw the need to have an all-inclusive awards show to honour “from grass-roots people to people of high office”.

Greaves is also part of The Alumni of Manchester group comprising mostly family and friends in the United States, many of whom are from the parish.

At the event, Entertainer Denyque was declared at the event as an ambassador for the parish.
