Consultation Forum for relocation of Transport Authority
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Stakeholders are today conducting a Consultation Forum regarding the relocation of the Transport Authority to the JAMINTEL Building on Duke Street, downtown Kingston.
Minister without Portfolio (Housing) Ministry of Transport, Works & Housing Morais Guy, in his address to the forum suggested that as part of the process moving forward, several such meetings be held with members of the community to inform them of the plans.
Member of Parliament for West Kingston Desmond McKenzie who was also at the meeting welcomed Guy’s suggestion but added that consideration had to be given to parking constraints in the area.
Offices of the Transport Authority are currently located in cramped quarters on Maxfield Avenue near to the intersection with Lyndhurst Road.
The JAMINTEL building has been vacant for several years and was mooted in early 2000s as a headquarters for the police. However that idea was dismissed based on safety concerns as well as possible parking problems.
