FOLLOWING the conclusion of the three-year-old Classic season, the horses led by Derby and St Leger winner Relampago, trained by Anthony Nunes, are dominating the top ten positions in the category of stakes earned thus far for the season.

By virtue of winning two of three classic races plus a second position in the Lotto Classic, Relampago has earned for his connections $7.7 million, comprising three wins from nine starts with five second-place finishes. Relampago is over $2 million clear of his batchmate Talented Tony K, who won the 2,000 Guineas and the Lotto Classic. Talented Tony K achieved his $5.3 million in stakes from a record of six starts with three wins and one second.

The first of four fillies on the top 10 list is the Philip Feanny-trained Bubbling Angeline who from nine starts (six wins included) has raked in $3.7 million. Bubbling Angeline did not do well in the longer Classic races, preferring instead to sprint, and that she has been doing very well of late. Bubbling Angeline has won in emphatic style her two last races against seasoned rivals, finding herself in the top class in racing at the present time. She is the leading winning horse on the list with six wins.

Raeven Renae, winner of the Jamaica Oaks, sits in fourth position earning $3.5 million from her seven starts.

There are two foreigners on the top 10 list led by Pete’swildone. Trained by Ian Parsard, Pete’swildone has raced 11 times for the year, winning four times and being unplaced on only three occasions. Parsard (Pete’swildone, Potcheen) and Feanny (Bubbling Angeline, El Poderoso) are the only trainers to have two horses with sufficient earnings to make the top 10 list.

The now deceased winner of the 1,000 Guineas, the Lorenzo Robinson-trained Queen Paula, is number six on the top 10 list with stakes earned of just over $2.5 million.

Interestingly, champion and leading trainer Wayne DaCosta has only one horse on the earnings chart. Perfect Neighbour, Derby and St Leger winner of last year, has earned $1.8 million for DaCosta, starting five times and winning three times.

El Poderoso, on the list in seventh position, is the most raced horse in the grouping with 14 starts.
